Tattoo ? ancient practice, modern times
Why tattoo? In ancient times the tattoo took on many meanings. Cassandra Franklin-Barbajosa of National Geographic Magazine notes, the earliest record of tattoos, to date, was found in 1991 on the frozen remains of the Copper Age “Iceman.” Scientists found the lower back, ankles, knees and foot had been marked with a series of vertical lines. Researchers believe the “Iceman,” named Otizi, may have used tattoos as medical treatment to reduce pain by rubbing black charcoal into the cuts. According to Franklin-Barbajosa, “As civilizations developed tattoos took on other meanings Levaquin online. Tattooing has been practiced in Japan for art, beauty, magic and to mark criminals since around the 5th century B.C. New York inventor Samuel O’Reilly patented the first electric tattoo machine in 1891, making traditional tools a thing of past. Over the five decades that followed tattoos became equated with certain groups on the fringe of American culture. While sailors, World War II and other military veterans embraced the tattoo, society remained unconvinced. Today, the tattoo has become much more mainstream. Everyday people are choosing to express their inner-self through the art of tattoo. No matter the decade or culture, a tattoo is an extremely personal means of expression. Tattoos mark time and meaningful events in the lives of persons bearing them. As the lyrics of “Tattoo” by The Who, a rock group who sang , “Welcome to my life, tattoo … We’ve a long time together, me and you … I expect I’ll regret you … But the skin graft man won’t get you … You’ll be there when I die … Tattoo,” explain. That exact sentiment is expressed by Paul Sloan, who considers his tattoos to be art, “Art that no one can take away from you. (Art) you get buried with.” Sloan, who lives and works in York, says tattoos are one way to express yourself or to remember a particular day. “Besides, it’s my body,” Sloan states, in regard to what others movie dvd may think. Most of Sloan’s tattoos are of animals; a lizard, black panther, spider. He’s got his daughter’s zodiac sign on his wrist, and a tribal sun at the nape of his neck. He guesses he got the first around 20 years ago, before it was as fashionable as it is today. Brandon Travis is 27. Travis says, he’s been getting tattoos for around 10 years. According to Travis, his mother wasn’t to happy he came home with a tattoo, which happened to be the head of a devil. Travis says tattoos are his style. Reactions to tattoos depend on the person. Travis believes tattoos are more commonplace than people realize, with quite a few people keeping theirs covered. “I kept mine covered for a while,” he admits. Travis says his tattoos are personal and meaningful to him, and that’s what is most important. Reactions to skin ink differ from person to person. Often wartime and military tattoos are viewed as more socially acceptable than art “seemingly” tattooed for fun. But both Travis and Sloan stress, what really matters is how they, themselves feel about the work. Both see tattoos as an indelible statement about who they are, and where they are in life. Tattoos don’t come cheap … they are expensive in terms of dollars and cents. Getting a tattoo is painful. The process is time consuming and requires patience. But Travis says tattoos are addictive — he plans to get more. Why tattoo? According to Sloan and Travis the answer is individuality … and the reasons run skin deep.

what, did you really think they’d only make as if one? according to the hollywood broadcaster, summit entertainment has unqualified to clutch on to the property that has made them, and, heck, why not make it a franchise? though the first smokescreen hasn’t arrived in theaters yet, initial drone from critics isn’t disagreeable (our own james rocchi told me it was “pretty good”), and so summit has gone and acquired rights to the next three novels and brought sunset screenwriter melissa rosenberg in to write the screenplays based on new moon and eclipse. breaking dawn, however, does not have a screenwriter just yet. though nothing was announced, i’d expect them to shoot two of these suckers back-to-servants’, but i theorize we’ll see which road they take.as you’re in all likelihood already aware, twilight mania has taken the world a bit by rain. the source material has amassed a totality ton of fan sites, the soundtrack has collision number one-liner on the charts and the flick is certainly wavering to clear big. how eminent, we do not know, though we’ll certainly be asking for your conviction at the beginning of next week — as well as shoveling out some pretty awesome twilight interviews; rhyme of which might just be with a girl named bella — so reinforce tuned. dusk hits theaters november 21.

Shaun Phillips is a linebacker with the San Diego Chargers and posts every week on this blog.
Today I was thinking that we haven’t won two games in a row this year. That’s kind of crazy to me.
Since I have been in the league, we have had a four-loss year (2004), a seven-loss year (2005), a two-loss year (2006), and a five-loss year (2007). This season, we have five already so we need to get rolling or I am going to go crazy.
This will be a fun game in my eyes because it is against the Pittsburgh Steelers. They are notorious for having a great defense and some outstanding linebackers.
I take this game personally because I am dedicating myself to be the best linebacker on the field this week. It is a personal battle because here are two linebackers in James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley and they are both at the top in the league for sacks, while I’m sitting with 3 1/2. This is a great opportunity for me to show that I’m one of the premier linebackers in league.
I love to play in cold games because it reminds me of backyard football and that’s the kind of game we want it to be. A lot of guys on our team come from cold weather cities, but we get spoiled being in Southern California. This game comes down to what team is more physical and determined and I am more than ready. It is time to get back to work and ready to win a HUGE game.

Voter turnout lower than predicted

Curtis Gans, one of the nation’s leading voter turnout experts and director of the Center for the Study of the American Electorate at American University, says Americans didn’t vote in the numbers that had been expected for this general election.
Indeed, he says this years turnout as a proportion of eligible voters may have only matched 2004 or slightly exceeded what was seen four years ago.
While Democrats were energized and turned out in larger numbers, the fall Levaquin online off in Republican turnout probably accounts for why turnout this year wasn’t as spectacular as experts had forecast before Election Day.
Here’s an excerpt from CSAE’s report.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 6, 2008)–Despite lofty predictions by some academics, pundits, and practitioners that voter turnout would reach levels not seen since the turn of the last century, the percentage of eligible citizens casting ballots in the 2008 presidential election stayed at virtually the same relatively high level as it reached in the polarized election of 2004.
According to a report and turnout projection released today by American University’s Center for the Study of the American Electorate (CSAE) and based, in part, on nearly final but unofficial vote tabulations as compiled by the Associated Press as of 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, the percentage of Americans who cast ballots for president in this year’s presidential election will reach between 126.5 million and 128.5 million when all votes have been counted by early next month.
If this prediction proves accurate, turnout would be at either exactly the same level as in 2004 or, at most, one percentage point higher (or between 60.7 percent and 61.7 percent). If the rate of voting exceeds 61.0 percent of eligibles, turnout will have been the highest since 1964. This projection stromectol is based on the 121.5 million tabulated votes compiled by the Associated Press plus some estimate–partially based on experience with post-election vote counting in previous elections and partially based on factors specific to this election, most notably the spread of balloting prior to Election Day–on how many ballots are still to be counted.
A downturn in the number and percentage of Republican voters going to the polls seemed to be the primary explanation for the lower than predicted turnout. The percentage of eligible citizens voting Republican declined to 28.7 percent down 1.3 percentage points from 2004. Democratic turnout increased by 2.6 percentage points from 28.7 percent of eligibles to 31.3 percent. It was the seventh straight increase in the Democratic share of the eligible vote since the party’s share dropped to 22.7 percent of eligibles in 1980.

How many people voted today
Yes We Did!
Wow! I was among was was rumored to be 7500 media representatives and between 125,000 - 200,000 people gathered to watch history in the making. Also in attendance were a number of celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Brad Pitt, Spike Lee, The Reverend Jesse Jackson, and Jesse Jackson Jr.
On the way to Chicago today I kept telling myself, “Act like you’ve been there before.” Because although I’ve worked a number of campaigns I never felt like I was so invested in the outcome as with this Change We all Believed In.
Part I - Anticipation
Being part of the media usually gives a better vantage point that the general public. But at this event the ticket holders got the greatest spot to enjoy the party.
“General” Media was sequestered away from the crowds. And the wait for the us to get into the crowd section was as long some of us spent waiting to vote. The volunteers explained that only 20 press people were allowed at a time. And like the fire marshal I encountered at the entrance of Hockeytown when the Detroit Red Wings were in the Stanley Cup Finals, we had to wait until someone came out before the next person went in. We were allowed only 20 minutes each, unless we wanted to stand in the press line again.
Early in the evening most people sat on the ground, or stood in line at the Official Obama Store. (Bonus: The official Obama Store at the media entrance had a MUCH shorter line). Some made their own videos. There were several very large American flags waving through the crowd.
More later on how it felt and what it meant to be at Grant Park while we and the world learned who would be the 44th President of the United States of America! Here are just a few photos from early in the evening.

Christian Baseball Players Are Dominant!
Who are the best players in baseball? Players who never fail? Players who don’t attack other players? Players without obsessive pride? Here are a few: Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton, Mariano Rivera, Christian Guzman, Matt Holiday, Jamie Moyer, Ryan Church.
They are so dominate. They believe in God.
Mariano Rivera has publicly said that he is going to be a Christian pastor when he retires from baseball. Albert Pujols has contributed to more donations than he has longballs.
Jamie Moyer is playing in Philliedelphia and still contributes to Seattle’s needy and sick. Matt Holiday is an amazing Christian leader on his team, even in the hard times. Christian Guzman and Ryan Church have been holding their team to Christian morals.
Josh Hamilton was into drugs; then he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and has fought his way back up to an all-star, and back up as a MVP candidate. He encourages you to do the same. Read John 3:16. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believed in him would have everlasting life.”
